Mulnayak: Nearly 45 cms. high, white - colored idol of
Bhagawan Prahalaviya Parshvanath.
Historicity: King Prahalad settled this city and named it as
Prahaladanpur. Later on, the name was changed into Palanpur. its history can be traced to
the thirteenth century of the vikram era. since it was built by King Prahalad, this temple
became famous as the temple of Prahaladan Prashvanath. Today it is known as the temple of
Pallaviya Parshvnath. This brave king melted the metal idol of Delvada in Abu and made an
idol of shiva’s riding bull. Then he began to be pained by leprosy. In agony, he at
last went to a forest. There he happened to meet Acharyashri Shalibhadrasurisvarji. he
repented for what he had done and then according to the instructions and with blessings of
the Acharya, he a made temple of Bhagawan Parshvanath. He poured on his body the water
with which the idol was bathed and cured his disease of leprosy. King Prahalad then become
a follower of the Jain religion. He performed many acts of religion. He was a scholar and
wrote many books. His dramatic work entitled " Parshva Parakram Vyasang" is
famous even today. It speaks highly about his scholarship. The present idol was formally
installed under the auspices of Kakkasurisvarji on the fifth day of the bright half of the
month of Fagan in the year 1274 of the Vikram era.
Other Temples: Besides this, there are at present 14 temples.
Works of art and Sculpture: In this temple, there are also other ancient
artistic, bright - looking idols. In other temples also, there are eye-pleasing idol. On
an idol of ambikadevi, there is a writing of the fourth day of bright half of the month of
Fagan of the year 1315 of the Vikram era and on idol of Guru, there is a writing of the
fifth day of the bright half of the month of Fagan of the year 1274 of the Vikram era.
These writings await research work.
Guidelines: The Palanpur station is on the railway and the main
highway from Ahmedabad to Abu Road. The railway station and the bus station are at a
distance of one kilometer from the temple. Buses and taxis are available for travel to the
temple. There are dharmashalas and bhojanashalas in the town.
